FARNHAM Boxing Club has had an eventful year, with members representing the club all over the country.
In particular, the club has been celebrating the success of 11-year-old Jack Adams. Joining when the club first opened three years ago, he started his boxing journey learning to throw simple jabs in the mini/junior section (5-8 year olds) and then progressed to the junior sessions. He began to spar a year ago, showing progress every week.
Finally, Jack took the nerve-racking step through the ropes at the Guildford Boxing Show to face his first opponent for real. With no-one inside the ring to guide him through each punch, the youngster was forced to think tactically and deliver punches while defending himself.
The first round was shaky, and his coaches wondered whether he could complete the three rounds. However, after a pep talk in the corner, Jack came out and showed real determination and courage.
The bout went the full distance and no-one was surprised when the referee lifted Jack’s hand as the winner.
The beaming smile on Jack’s face showed that his hard work and dedication had paid off.
The victory underlined his potential and Farnham BC are thrilled with his progress.
Farnham Boxing Club, with a steady influx of new members, continues fund-raising for a new building.
The purpose-built gym will allow the club to expand its coaching programme and to benefit the whole community.
