STAFF at Squire’s Garden Centre, Badshot Lea, were left “absolutely devastated” by the theft of 10 large Koi carp and a sturgeon, valued at £7,725, from the display pond.
In the targeted theft on Friday last week, thieves broke in after hours and made off with the prize specimens. The Koi carp, which measure between 22in and 26 in, were selected by Squire’s in Israel for their quality and imported to Badshot Lea.
Deputy chairman Sarah Squire said: “We are all absolutely devastated that this theft has happened, and are very concerned about the welfare of the fish, as they require a large pond or facility with well-filtered oxygenated water.
“Pet welfare is at the top of our agenda at Squire’s. We urge people to come forward if they have any information.”
Anyone with information should contact Surrey Police by calling 101 or emailng: [email protected].
