A RADICAL proposal to close all 29 beds at Haslemere Hospital announced last week by West Surrey Health Authority has provoked shock and anger in the town this week.

Plans to remove 14 neuro-rehabilitation beds from the Godwin Unit and 10 medical and five intermediate beds from Elizabeth Ward, were criticised by Haslemere resident Jean Berry, while South West Surrey MP Virginia Bottomley said Haslemere people had been "betrayed and let down", pointing out that "community hospitals should be where the community lives".
