FORMER owner of Blackwell Farm on the Hogs Back and loveable Farnham resident Betty Brock, celebrated her 100th birthday in style, as family and friends gathered to reminisce the last 100 years.

Betty, widow of Geoffrey Brock, and mother to four daughters – Rosalind Milton, Elizabeth Lennie, Sara Purser and Caroline Sharps - celebrated her birthday on Wednesday, January 25.

She was treated to not only one but two parties, where she gossiped, joked and exchanged fond memories about her time growing up on the farm.

“She certainly had a good time. My parents were both farmers on Blackwell Farm. My mum was a farmer’s daughter, farmer’s wife, farmer’s mother and now farmer’s grandmother – she’s got six grandchildren,” said Rosalind who lives next door to her mother in a semi-detached house on Kilnside Farm in Runfold.

“We are a very closely knit family. We look after her, she’s in her own home and helps me on the farm – she can still bottle feed lambs from her wheelchair.

“Kilnside Farm is my farm, my sisters live in different parts of the country but we contribute to looking after her. Our father was outnumbered but we were just as good as the men, we could milk a cow, we could drive a tractor, we could do everything – so we were brought up as helpers on the farm.

“She’s just the most wonderful mother and grandmother to us all. She was really chuffed about the card from the Queen.”

Alongside the card from Her Majesty, Betty was overwhelmed by the “kind” words and multiple cards and flowers given by those she has befriended during her life.
