A FARNHAM barman is swapping rum and cokes for running shoes as he prepares to take part in this year’s London Marathon.
It will be 20-year-old Bradley Skinner’s second attempt at running the 26.2-mile distance and he is hoping to beat last year’s time of five hours and 23 minutes. He has set himself a target of five hours.
This year, Bradley (pictured) has chosen to support St John Ambulance on April 28. “I’ve always liked the ambulance for what they’ve done,” he said.
“They offer a lot of support and training, such as helping people learn first aid.
“I thought this is my way to give something back and raise awareness of them.”
Bradley usually completes ten-mile runs. “I now have to up it in the coming weeks and get in some half marathons,” he said.
“I decided to take on the marathon for a second time as I’ve always been into running and wanted to try to get a better time.
“I feel better prepared this year than last year – last year there was a lot of uncertainty.
“Now I know how to improve on last year.
“I’m looking forward to it – you get lots of support on the day and from the charity.”
Having only recently found out he had a place in this year’s marathon, Bradley has just started fundraising. He has set himself a target of raising £1,500.
