FARNHAM Park is in the running for the title of the UK’s Best Park after it was nominated by residents.

The 320-acre medieval deer park overlooked by Farnham Castle is up against 18 other parks in the south of England category of the Fields in Trust competition.

People have until 5pm on Wednesday, November 25, to cast their vote and give Farnham Park a chance of being crowned the UK’s Best Park.

Farnham Park was awarded a Green Flag earlier this year by Keep Britain Tidy, signifying that it has the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

The park is looked after by Waverley Borough Council with support from volunteers and the Friends of Farnham Park.

Two other parks in Waverley, Broadwater Park in Farncombe and Phillips Memorial Park in Godalming, were also nominated for the Fields in Trust competition.

Simon Thornton, portfolio holder for leisure and environment at Waverley Borough Council, said: “I’m delighted these parks could be crowned the best in the UK.

“Waverley’s parks have had a fantastic year; both Broadwater and Farnham Park were awarded Green Flags, so winning a further award would be a brilliant end to 2015.

“It would be great to see as many people as possible voting for all three. Each is deserving of the title; they all have their own individual charm and are loved by so many residents who go there to spent time outdoors with friends and family all year round.”

After the voting round, the three parks with the most votes will be shortlisted and the winning park will be announced at the Fields in Trust awards ceremony at Lord’s Cricket Ground on Wednesday, December 2. Vote online at www.fieldsintrust.org/bestpark/nomi
