ONE of Farnham's most recognisable landmarks, the historic Town Hall clock in Castle Street, has been silenced after chiming every quarter of an hour for the last 146 years.
Owners of the Town Hall Buildings, Amalgamated Berkshire, opted to turn off the chimes last week after just one Castle Street resident complained to Waverley Borough Council about the noise.
It has prompted an angry response from local people, who feel they are being denied a welcome and ever-present reminder of Farnham's proud history.
Kiran Davies, who has wound up the clock twice a week for the past six years, has begun a petition calling for a return of the familiar chimes.
