POLICE have charged a 23-year-old man with drink driving after a car rolled over into an electricity substation in Wrecclesham on Saturday morning.
More than 100 homes and businesses were left without power after the crash, which happened at around 2.40am at the junction of Sandrock Hill Road and Beacon Close.
Tyler Stannard-Peters, 23, of The Chantrys in Farnham was subsequently charged with drink driving, as well as dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision.
He was granted conditional bail and is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates’ Court on October 24.
The car contained a number of passengers, and an ambulance crew treated a woman aged in her 20s for elbow and other injuries before taking her to Frimley Park Hospital.
Beacon Close resident Louise Doven reported being woken up by the “enormous sound of the car crashing into the sub-station” on Saturday morning.
Louise added she and other residents stayed with the “shocked passengers” and the injured girl for “some time” before the arrival of the emergency services around half an hour later.
Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) confirmed it was alerted to a power cut affecting 60 customers in Beacon Close at 2.36am on Saturday resulting from the crash.
A spokesman said: “SSEN engineers attended immediately to make the area and electricity supply safe.
“As a result engineers had to disconnect a further 48 customers to allow for a mobile generator to be introduced and for repairs to be carried out.
“All 108 customers were reconnected by 11am on Saturday and will continue to be powered by a generator until all repair works are safely completed.”
Residents reported further power cuts on Sunday afternoon and evening.
However, the SSEN spokesman added on Monday that the majority of the repairs has been completed, and customers should not experience any further power outages.
