THE Alton section of Cycling UK dedicated one of its regular Saturday afternoon rides to the memory of former club mate Malcolm Seal, who died last year.
To celebration Malcolm’s time with the club, a route was devised to include as many of his favourites hills in the area as possible.
Including some descents as well as ascents, the cyclists tackled Snode Hill, Smugglers Lane, Soames Lane, Stapley Lane, Galley Hill and Brightstone Lane, among others.
The group was delighted that Malcolm’s son, Graeme, was able to ride with them on this occasion.
With temperatures reaching 30°C for the July ride, well-earned refreshments were enjoyed in the new café at Gilbert White’s House and Gardens in Selborne where club cyclists were met by Malcolm’s wife, Maureen.
The ride covered 36 miles and approximately 2,000ft of climbing. It was agreed that it had been a fitting tribute to a much-missed cycling friend.
Cycling UK Alton holds an afternoon ride every Saturday and newcomers are welcome.
