KIND-hearted young Hammer Hill Estate residents James and Eryn laid on a fundraising event to help their friend Daisy, who is a wheelchair user.

Both are junior members of Hammer Hill Recreation Association and the group was only too happy to help.

Hammer Hill Recreation Association chairman Lisa Taylor said: “James and Eryn decided that they would do some sponsored laps of the fields on Good Friday, April 19.

“Their friends joined in and all those taking part could walk, run, cycle or use a wheelchair.

“With the help of some adults, they raised a massive £200 to raise money so that Daisy can choose and buy some soft furnishings for her newly-adapted bedroom.

“We are so proud of all of them.”

Hammer Hill residents clubbed together to raise enough money to buy their recreation ground, which has a wooden pavilion, for the benefit of the community in 1999.

The money was raised by numerous fundraising events to provide a recreational facility that could be enjoyed by residents.

Both the field and pavilion are available for hire for children’s activities, parties and weddings.

The recreation association’s most ambitious event to raise money to improve the grounds was its Hammer-Time music festival in August 2018.

Established and up and coming musical talents entertained the crowds at the show, which raised more than £3,000 for Hammer Hill recreation ground, including a donation to Haslemere Hospital League of Friends. Companies donated marquees, catering equipment, toilets and burgers.
