PUPILS at St Polycarp’s School put on a Christmas play with an environmental twist last week to celebrate the school’s Green Flag eco-friendly status.
Performed by St Polycarp’s year four, ‘The Big Green Adventure’ told the story of a group of forest creatures who travel into the city to see what humans are like to help them decide if they should let people build in the forest.
Their journey takes them to a landfill site, a supermarket and other city locations.
It was directed by year four teachers Paula Field and Lucy Waugh, who said: “The play is about the comparison of a natural environment and city life."
It features lots of light-hearted songs and dances but has an important message that “encourages the audience to make a positive change for the environment,” added Lucy.
More than 50 children from both year four classes took part in the performance with teachers and parents helping make the set as well as costumes.
During the show a collection was held for the Help 4 Harry campaign which is raising money for children with muscular dystrophy inspired by the plight of Weybourne school boy Harry Barnley.
Lucy continued: "We really appreciate all the effort by the parents with costumes and learning lines, and from the music teacher who did lots of work for the play.”
