THIS YEAR’S Farnham Festival of Transport, organised by the Herald and Farnham Weyside Rotary, raised a whopping £2,400 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice.

The donation could pay for two weeks of care from one of the Hospice Care at Home nurses.

On presenting the cheque, Herald general manager Eddie Pearce said: “We are thrilled to help support the Phyllis Tuckwell for another year, especially with this year being their 40th year anniversary. Huge thanks to everyone at Weyside Rotary for all their help, as without them the event simply wouldn’t happen.”

President of Farnham Weyside Rotary Paul Dawson added: “It’s always good to support local charities and, of course, Phyllis Tuckwell is one of our prominent local charities that so many clubs, especially Rotary, support throughout the year. It’s nice to hand over a little bit more cash from a great event which we’ve been doing with Herald for many, many years.”

This year marked the 20th anniversary of the event and as well as those who regularly turn up with their motor vehicles, there were “a lot of new ones”, said Mike Yeadon, chairman of the Rotary’s community and vocational committee at the time of the festival. He added: “Without their participation, we wouldn’t be able to hold the event, so we’re very grateful.”

Sarah Brocklebank, chief executive at the hospice, said: “We are so grateful to all those involved in organising the 20th Festival of Transport this year.

“We could not do our work without the support of people and organisations such as the Herald and the Rotary Club of Farnham Weyside.”
