GAS supplier SGN is set to begin a major upgrade to Farnham’s gas network on Monday (July 31) - requiring roadworks at both ends of the town for up to six weeks.
Works are set to start on a half-mile stretch of the A325 in Wrecclesham between Fullers Road and Echo Barn Lane (B3384) lasting approximately six weeks, as well as at the junction of Monkton Lane and Water Lane in Badshot Lea lasting approximately three weeks.
SGN says the “essential” works involve the replacement of old metal gas mains with new plastic pipe to ensure a continues safe and reliable gas supply.
A spokesman told the Herald: “We understand that people can get frustrated by roadworks. However the new plastic pipe has a minimum lifespan of 80 years. This means that when the work is complete, Farnham homes and businesses will continue to enjoy the benefits of a safe and reliable gas supply for years to come.”
To ensure the safety of road users, and make sure traffic can flow past the work safely, three-way temporary traffic lights will initially be in place at the junction of the A325 and Fullers Road from July 31.
The spokesman continued: “As our work progresses northbound along the road, the temporary lights at the junction will be removed and we’ll use temporary two-way traffic lights on the A325, which will move along the road as our work progresses.
“Finally, as we approach the junction of the A325 with Echo Barn Lane (B3384), the temporary two-way lights will be removed and temporary three-way lights will be in place at the junction.”
A set of three-way temporary traffic lights will also be in place at the junction of Monkton Lane and Water Lane, from this Monday.
All the lights will be manually operated during peak times to help minimise disruption to motorists.
