ALTON Sports and Social Club Ground will explode into life next Saturday (November 3) with the staging of another spectacular bonfire and fireworks display to rival any in the county.

Following a record turnout last year, when more than 5,000 people turned up to enjoy the fun, the stops are being pulled out to provide an even Òbigger and betterÓ display.

With more money than ever this year set aside to provide a professionally orchestrated display synchronised to music, Alton Round TableÕs annual pyrotechnic extravaganza looks set to exceed all previous records.

Revellers will also be able to purchase a range of Ôglow-in-the-darkÕ novelties, alongside typical bonfire night refreshments such as hot-dogs, burgers, doughnuts and candyfloss.

A Guy Fawkes competition is to be judged by Alton Town Mayor David Willoughby. It can be entered on the night by taking the guy to the Round Table stage at the Anstey Road site (formerly Bass Sports Ground) when the gates open at 6-15 pm. After the judging at 6-30 pm, the guys will take pride of place on the bonfire which will be lit at 6-45 pm by the mayor.

According to organiser John Greenhaugh, large numbers of people from Alton and the surrounding villages are expected to turn up for the fireworks event which promises Òfantastic value for moneyÓ. Gate prices are £4 for adults and £2 for children with half-price tickets available in advance from Spa/Newsmann and Porters News, Music and Video shops in Alton High Street, the Alton Tourist Information Centre in Cross & Pillory Lane, Charters Garage at Four Marks, and Norman Read Butchers and the Handy Store in Medstead.

But be warned, anyone driving to the event should make sure they are parked legally.

Following outrage expressed after previous events when motorists returned to find their cars wheelclamped, Mr Greenhaugh warns not to park in the station area without a ticket.

ÒPast performance shows that you will be clamped whether this is a community event or not,Ó he said.
