A WITLEY grandmother is spearheading a project to provide more than 300 knitted baby hats for the neo-natal baby unit at the Royal Surrey Hospital.
Freda Baird, pictured, of the Guildford congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has already delivered the first batch of 50 hats.
“They were overjoyed to receive them,” she said. “They use 3,000 hats a year, so to be able to contribute to that number is a real privilege for us.
“Members of our congregation have committed to knit these hats as an ongoing project. But we are also happy to receive contributions from anyone in the community who might be willing to help.”
The church group have now been given a special assignment to provide hats in three different colours - red, yellow or green - for the really poorly babies, who will receive a different colour hat as their condition improves.
