A FARNHAM woman will undertake an epic 874 mile odyssey from John O’Groats to Lands End by tractor this June to raise money for meningitis research.
Rebecca Marsden, who grew up in Farnham, will set off from the northern-most tip of the British mainland on June 11 and hopes to arrive at the southern-most point of Cornwall three days later.
On the way she also plans to make people aware of meningitis having nearly lost her daughter Darcey to the deadly disease when she was two in 2014.
Rebecca, an operations manger for a specialist recruitment agency in Winchester, also survived meningitis when she was 16 so has a double cause to raise money for research.
She will be assisted on the journey by her partner and Darcey’s dad, East Meon farmer Ryan Boisclair, with whom Rebecca also has a 15-year-old son Chandler.
She said: “Our hearts go out to those who have suffered loss and throughout this journey we have learned that many others have in fact suffered because of this disease.
“So we are so grateful to the doctors and nurses who saved our daughter who was so ill. An hour or two later and it would have been too late.”
