Lindford Methodist Church is set to celebrate its 150th birthday, with two special services to mark the momentous occasion.
There has been a church presence on the site since 1828 when the church family used to meet in a wooden structure on wheels, known locally as ‘The Ark’.
But, this structure soon became dilapidated and in 1833 it was removed to give way to a new building in which Preacher Henry White did most of the carpentry himself.
The foundation stone of the church known today was laid on March 5, 1870. During the Second World War, it served as a canteen to the British and Canadian troops.
Today, the church is said to have a thriving Christian community, with traditional services, Café Church, play groups and other activities.
On March 1 at 11am, Deacon Janet Heys will lead a Celebration Service, reflecting upon the history and future of the church.
While on March 8 at 11am, Café Church will have a similar, less formal celebration.
