THE Mayor of Farnham, Pat Frost, launched Purple Walk 2016 at Waverley Abbey House to raise funds for national charity Young Epilepsy.

A record 187 walkers completed the 10km route to raise £5,000 for the charity, which supports 112,000 children and young people living with epilepsy in the UK.

Afterwards the Farnham Brass Band played while families enjoyed picnics and games on the lawns of Waverley Abbey House.

Regional fundraiser Hollie Lucas said: “A massive thank you to the mayor for opening Young Epilepsy’s Purple Walk 2016. The day was a huge success with the most Purple walkers we have had to date, thank you to each and every one of you. The event has raised £5,000 so far and we are still counting. This will make a big difference to the young lives we support.

“Thank you to Fidelity International for sponsoring the event and to the Farnham Rotary for planning the route and marshalling.”

Mrs Frost said: “It was amazing to see so many Purple people out to support Young Epilepsy, a wonderful cause dear to my heart that is working hard to improve young lives with the condition. It was a pleasure to open Purple Walk 2016 and thank you to everyone who made it a brilliant day.”
