GOSTREY Meadow hosted Farnham’s first ever Sustainability Fayre last Saturday, with around 24 producers and ‘green’ organisations displaying their wares.
The fayre was organised by Farnham Local Food, and brought together an interesting mix of businesses, which all aim to contribute in their different ways to sustainability by for example producing locally (be it honey, beer, pots or bread), by focusing on the environment, recycling, or by encouraging people to borrow all manner of items instead of buying them new.
The fayre put these organisations and charities, as well as Farnham Local Food itself into the limelight, and showed that making a difference doesn’t have to be big or complicated.
Of course it wasn’t all serious – the fayre was also simply about having fun and relaxing. So Farnham Local Food had organised several children’s activities, a bunting making workshop, there was music, wood craft, massage, a tea stall with its tables laden with home-made cakes and savouries, a stall selling so many plants it almost resembled a small nursery.
The band stand even featured a small art exhibition. It was a lively and vibrant fayre, the atmosphere was sunny and cheerful, drawing in many people happy to sip a cup of tea, sample the cakes and peruse the various stalls.
