NORTH East Hampshire MP James Arbuthnot visited the Grayshott Village Archive, in its refurbished rooms at the village hall. Chairman of the archive Dennis Lusby, said: "Our visitor heard from the archive administrator, Jim Henson that the Archive was founded by the Grayshott Parish Council and the management committee of the Village Hall in 2002. "They did this to celebrate and mark the centenaries of the council and the hall, in a permanent way. "Since then more than 250 folders containing sound interviews with local people, video interviews, postcards of the village, official reports on village life and its infra structure, books, stories from present day village residents, maps, leaflets and local guides have been assembled." After looking at a range of exhibits and being told that that over a 1,000 working hours had been invested in the project Mr. Arbuthnot said: "The archive's collection of information is fascinating and I suspect many more hours than a 1,000 have been invested." The archive has benefited from generous donations from organisations including the Grayshott Pottery Trust, the National Lottery and villagers who have become Friends of the Archive. That same day, Mr Arbuthnot opened the new police office and public toilets in Grayshott (as published in the Herald last week) – an event which has already become an archive item. Anyone who wishes to become a Friend of the Grayshott Village Archive or who has information about the history of Grayshott and its people, or would like to help with the archive's work should contact Brian Tapp on 01428 606548.
