A DISTRICT councillor who joked on social media about an alleged rape victim will face no action.

Philip Drury's remark was made in relation to British student Serena Bowes, 21, who is facing extradition to Italy after being accused of falsifying a rape allegation.

Mr Drury wrote on Facebook in November: "Not sure anyone would even want to think about it looking at her lol."

He later deleted the post and blamed his lack of judgment on being tired after working long hours.

East Hampshire District Council confirmed that following an investigation by the monitoring team Mr Drury, who was leader of the Liberal Democrats on EHDC, would not be disciplined as he was not acting in his capacity as a councillor.

He has resigned as Lib Dem leader but said his decision was due to work pressures.
