BRITAIN’S new Prime Minister Theresa May made an impromptu visit to Farnham last weekend to attend Dame Elizabeth and Sir Peter Anson’s annual barbecue for members of the South West Surrey Conservative Association, which raised more than £2,500 for the group.

Mrs May, who became Britain’s second female head of government after Margaret Thatcher this week, was joined at Sunday’s barbecue by Haslemere MP Jeremy Hunt, as well as numerous councillors and supporters of the Tory party locally.

Mr Hunt said: “We were delighted to welcome our next Prime Minister to Farnham on Sunday. Theresa May went down extremely well with supporters who were very impressed with her warmth and down to earth manner.

“Appearing at the Anson’s annual barbecue is clearly a vital step for anyone wishing to become Prime Minister – Farnham today, the world tomorrow!

“On a personal level I am thrilled that she has won the contest to take over from David Cameron. We face extremely challenging times and her resilience, strength and proven track record is our very best chance as a country.”
