VOTERS in Weybourne and Badshot Lea will be the first in Waverley invited to cast their vote on a Saturday, in a by-election brought about by the resignation of John Cresswell.

Mr Cresswell, who was a Liberal Democrat, has resigned from both Farnham Town Council and Waverley Borough Council because a new job has taken him to Cheshire.

On Saturday, December 8 between 8 am and 9 pm electors will be able to cast their votes in the town and borough by-election at Badshot Lea Infants School or William Cobbett Primary School.

A spokesman said the Saturday polling day was the first in Waverley's history.

"We're hoping that more voters turn out on a Saturday. It's a trial."

The spokesman added that as of Wednesday morning, the council had received no nominations.
