PUPILS at St Peter’s School in Farnham celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight by selling cakes which had to include at least one Fairtrade ingredient.

They raised £360 for Traidcraft Exchange which supports Fairtrade projects in farming communities around the world.

Deputy head Sarah Marshall said: “We are about to submit evidence to renew our Fairtrade Achiever Status. We have learning relating to justice and fairtrade embedded across many curriculum subjects.

“As it’s about the real world it really engages children to think. Pupils learn that many small voices can make big changes.”

As well as holding a sale and promoting Fairtrade products at the school’s parents’ evening, pupils have composed a Fairtrade song and others have written to town MP Jeremy Hunt to campaign for Waverley Borough Council to become a Fairtrade borough.
