STUDENTS from the Kumon Farnham Study Centre were recognised at an Advanced Student Honour Roll awards ceremony at Daniel Hall in Farnham, for their success and continued development studying the Kumon maths and English programmes.

Around 40 students and their parents attended the awards ceremony. David Attfield, the Deputy Mayor of Farnham, presented students with their certificates and medals for their achievement of reaching the Kumon International Standard, and in some cases, surpassing it, meaning they are studying advanced work in comparison to their peers world-wide.

The ceremony also encouraged and motivated students who have yet to reach ASHR status.

Shree Budhathoki, nine, who has been studying the Kumon maths and English programme, gave a speech about how Kumon has helped him achieve well at school.

Priyanka Gurung, six, received a special award for reaching Level G in both maths and English.

This means that Priyanka has been tackling comprehension of advanced texts, as well as working with algebraic equations and complex operations with fractions.

She told of how she was grateful that Kumon had enabled her to learn new topics with ease. Ann Rose Kottackal, a year six pupil at St Joseph’s Primary School also received a special award for Reaching Level G in the English programme while still at primary school.

The Early Learner Achievement Award was made to three-year-old Riley Jones for making good progress with developing pencil control skills, vocabulary and speech.

Herbert De Leon, father of Lorlane De Leon told of how Kumon has helped Lorlane feel positive about her performance in the recent SATs tests.

This ceremony was a chance to not only reward and celebrate the students’ achievements but to also thank parents for their on going commitment to their child’s Kumon studies.

Two parents, Mr Gurung and Mrs Budhathoki were given recognition for the way they have supported their child progress using the Kumon method.

Instructor at the study centre, Disha Lonergan, said: “I frequently hear from our parents how Kumon has supported their children in achieving their goal of improving their maths, English and study skills.

“The awards ceremony was great occasion where we were able to reward all the hard work that students have put in to their Kumon study. I thank everyone who attended on such a hot day and made our celebration a success.”
