HOARDINGS are in place and demolition of Farnham's redundant 1960s-built police station will soon be under way, after Churchill Retirement Living achieved planning consent for its complex of 50 sheltered apartments at the second time of asking. The plans, given the go-ahead last Wednesday by Waverley Council's joint planning committee, were little changed from the scheme that the council turned down a year ago, in a decision that was later supported by a government appeal inspector. The major difference has been Churchill's agreement to contribute almost £1m, to be used by the council for providing affordable housing off-site, in lieu of making any provision on-site.
