FESTIVE fundraisers stepped out en masse at the weekend to raise more than £15,000 for Farnham based hospice care charity, Phyllis Tuckwell.

More than 600 people took part in the charity’s Santa and Rudolph Fun Runs, which were held at the Devil’s Punch Bowl, in Hindhead, on Saturday, and the Queen’s Avenue Playing Fields, in Aldershot, on Sunday.

They walked, ran and jogged the routes, many with dogs in tow also sporting festive gear, in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell.

The charity provides supportive and end of life care for those facing cancer, or other serious progressive illnesses, in West Surrey and North East Hampshire.

Phyllis Tuckwell’s events fundraiser Fiona Chapman told The Herald: “We would like to thank all those who took part in our annual Santa Fun Runs and raised money to fund our hospice care.

“Our thanks also go to those who helped organise the event, and those who volunteered on the day, making sure it all went smoothly.

“Every day we support over 250 patients and relatives in their own homes, at the hospice, in Farnham, and at the Beacon Centre, in Guildford, but as the NHS/Government only covers 20 per cent of our costs, we have to raise more than £15,000 a day to be able to do this.

“Events such as this are vital in helping fund our care, as well as being great fun to take part in.”
