FARNHAM’S first ever ‘Sustainability Fayre’ will take place in Gostrey Meadow this Saturday, celebrating the work of local food producers.

The fayre has been organised by Farnham Local Food (FLF), a community-run agriculture project that has been growing vegetables in the Farnham area for the past nine years.

Early June is always a special time in the project’s calendar – not only because it is when fresh spring vegetables are beginning to be in abundance again. It is also the time for FLF to hold its annual fete and plant sale.

In the past this was held at one of its growing sites where members and volunteers would welcome visitors with tea and home-made cakes, plants and a wide variety of activities.

However, this year FLF has decided to spread its wings and take its fete to Gostrey Meadow, right in the heart of Farnham.

It has invited a number of other organisations to join it – thus creating Farnham’s first ‘Sustainability Fayre’.

The idea behind the fayre is to highlight and celebrate the work of local producers and those communities, charities and businesses in and around Farnham whose aims are to work towards a greener, more sustainable future.

These include among others Surrey Wildlife Trust, Hogs Back Brewery, Mill Farm Organic, and Pugmill Bakery.

Farnham Local Food itself will have, among other things, a tea and cake stall, a plant stall, wood crafts, make-your-own-bag, a serendipity stall selling many nice things, as well as children’s activities, including a ‘make your own veg monster’ competition.

There will even be a pop-up cinema and art exhibition. The event will take place from 11am to 4pm this Saturday, June 10 in Gostrey Meadow. Entrance is free.
