The future of a popular Farnham pub is in doubt after the company behind it began liquidation proceedings, weeks after telling customers it would close temporarily for essential electrical works.
The Mulberry on Station Hill is run by Q Bars & Restaurants Limited, which has called a virtual meeting of creditors for October 14 as part of a creditors' voluntary liquidation.
There has been no official statement explaining the liquidation or confirming whether the pub will reopen.
The Mulberry's last public announcement told customers it would close for a month while essential electrical works were carried out with SSE.
However, its website is no longer operating as before, with the former address redirecting to a 123 Reg page offering the domain for registration.
The developments have raised questions about whether the closure will remain temporary, although there has been no confirmation that the pub has shut permanently.
A formal notice dated October 1 names insolvency practitioners Jasmine Baxter and Rikki Burton, of Anderson Brookes Insolvency Practitioners Limited, in connection with the liquidation.
The move follows an earlier attempt to strike Q Bars & Restaurants Limited off the Companies House register.
A First Gazette notice published in April warned that the company could be dissolved unless cause was shown against the proposed action.
The strike-off process was subsequently discontinued after cause was shown, with the Registrar confirming that no further action would be taken under that notice.
The creditors' meeting will consider matters relating to the liquidation, including the liquidators' remuneration and associated costs.
The notice does not explain what will happen to the Station Hill premises, whether jobs will be affected or whether the pub intends to reopen.
The pub was closed when the Herald visited, with no notice displayed explaining the liquidation.
The Herald has approached SSE and The Mulberry for comment.
