A Farnham runner who suffered serious facial injuries after a fall is appealing to find the kind-hearted strangers who rushed to help her.

Maureen Black, 67, was out on her usual Saturday morning run on October 10 when she tripped on the pavement at around 11am, about 400 metres from Squires Garden Centre.

The Farnham Town Running Club member fell heavily, striking her face and head on the ground and suffering significant bleeding.

A man named Patrick, who was driving past, stopped immediately to help. A woman also rushed to Maureen's aid, helping to stem the bleeding while an ambulance was called.

Patrick stayed with her, talking to her and keeping her calm while they waited for paramedics to arrive.

Another person, believed to be from a nearby house, brought out an old red sleeping bag to keep her warm.

Maureen was taken to Frimley Park Hospital's emergency department, where she received treatment for a gash to her temple. A scan ruled out a serious head injury, but she had suffered a facial fracture, along with bruising to her hands and ribs.

Now recovering at home, Maureen said she wanted to thank everyone who stopped to help.

She said: “Talk about restoring your faith in human nature. I don't think I would have been in a good situation if that woman hadn't stopped and that guy hadn't been there. They could have really saved my life.”

Having worked in the NHS for years, Maureen was aware of the potential seriousness of a head injury and said she was immensely grateful that people had stayed with her until the ambulance arrived.

The accident has shaken her confidence in running, but she has been encouraged by the support of friends, family and fellow runners.

Maureen hopes anyone who helped her that Saturday morning will come forward so she can thank them personally and return the red sleeping bag if its owner can be identified.
