IF your wardrobe could do with a spring clean in the lead up to summer, Waverley Borough Council (WBC) is encouraging people to recycle their old clothes.
WBC is working with other councils across Surrey to encourage more re-use and recycling of textiles.
The campaign aims to get more old clothes, shoes and home textiles like towels and sheets into recycling centres.
Portfolio holder for environmental services, Andrew Bolton, is keen to see more textiles kept away from landfill.
He said: “It makes no sense to put textiles in the waste when it is easy to re-use them or recycle them into something new.
“It also saves money with up to £4 million to be saved across Surrey that can be spent on better things.”
All clothes and home textiles, including towels, sheets, pairs of shoes, bags and socks, can be recycled.
They are either sorted to be used again in the UK and abroad or recycled into new products like stuffing, felt or insulation.
However, stuffed items like pillows, cushions and quilts left in bin bags, untied carrier bags or recycling bins cannot be recycled.
Other centres can be found in Godalming and Witley.
