FARNHAM will be transported 100 years back in time this Sunday as the town marks the centenary of the first ever two-minute silence in Castle Street followed by a May Day fair in Gostrey Meadow.
‘The Time to Remember’ event, organised by Farnham Maltings and Farnham Town Council, will begin with a procession along Castle Street at 10.30am led by serving soldiers of the Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment.
A ceremony will then be held at the bottom of Castle Street at 10.50pm including the performance of a piece of music specially commissioned for the event and a two-minute silence at 11am in the memory of those who have fallen in war.
Gostrey Meadow will then play host to a traditional May Day fair with steam rides, First World War re-enactments, a May pole, light refreshments and live music throughout the afternoon.
See page 11 of this week’s Herald for more information about the event and the piece of music composed for the occasion.
