WHEN Farnham Heath End School held its prom, they had some uninvited guests.

Travellers who pitched up in Badshot Lea last week reportedly “gatecrashed” the school prom at Farnham Rugby Club last Friday.

Waverley Borough Commander, Inspector Gary Smith, said police are “fully aware” of the impact an unauthorised encampment has and are looking at a “number of offences that have been reported to the police”, which are in the “initial stages of investigation”.

Inspector Smith continued: “These enquiries include the assault of a person over the weekend who was struck by a plastic bottle of water during a private event at Farnham Rugby Club on Friday.

“It is important that we ensure that any action taken by the police and partner agencies is proportionate, within the law.”

He added: “We will continue to progress every suitable avenue to ensure that the land owner has access to their property once again and that any identified offenders are dealt with in a timely and proportionate way.”

Waverley Borough Council has been informed that the landowner has “taken legal action to ensure that the unauthorised encampment can be removed at the earliest possible opportunity”.

Surrey Police also confirmed they had received a “slight increase in reports of anti-social behaviour and criminal activity” and are “currently progressing all positive lines of enquiry to identify the perpetrator(s) and bring offenders to justice”.
