ALTON'S treasured Lord Mayor Treloar Hospital buildings were described in part as "grim, devoid of any character" and "plainly awful" by architect Roy Worskett as NHS agent Capitec put an aggressive case for its 145-dwelling scheme to be allowed to go ahead on the site.

Mr Worskett's controversial statements came at the end of the first day, on Tuesday, of the public inquiry into Capitec's appeal against the refusal of planning permission by East Hampshire District Council for it to demolish the redundant hospital buildings and replace them with a housing estate.
