TRIBUTES were paid to two young members of the Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletic Club during BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

Lucy Pygott, 17, from Hartley Wintney, and Stacey Burrows, 16, from Farnborough, both featured in the awards’ montage of sporting stars and broadcasters who have passed away this year.

The moving sequence, which also paid tribute to Mohammed Ali, Johan Cruyff and the victims of the Chapecoense air disaster, was accompanied by Laura Wright and the Birmingham Community Gospel Choir singing David Bowie’s Heroes.

Lucy and Stacey were hit by a suspected drink driver while jogging opposite the athletics club in Aldershot on November 8 and died at the scene.
