THE walking football phenomenon has arrived in Farnham, and is in need of more players aged 50 and over to dust off their boots and get involved.
Retro Rangers, one of the 600 clubs now established in England, meets on Tuesday evenings between 7pm and 8.30pm on one of the modern flood-lit, all-weather pitches at Weydon School.
Social events are also organised, and according to one of the club’s founding members the game is no less competitive for the lack of running.
Norman Davies said: “Everyone who plays will tell you that the most difficult aspect is not to run.
“Although you can play at a pace which suits you, walking football brings out the same competitive instincts as the beautiful game and you will get a good workout.
“Retro Rangers welcomes players of all abilities. Whether you want to play on a Tuesday evening, a bit like when you were much younger playing in the local park with jumpers for goal posts, or want to play in local tournaments – it’s your choice.”
