RHS Wisley has cashed in on the Pokémon GO phenomenon by launching a new online tour showing off the virtual monsters living in its gardens.

The game, downloadable for free on most smartphones, superimposes Pokémon – Japanese for ‘pocket monsters’ – on the real world and has proved extremely popular among young and old audiences.

There are more than 100 of the mini-creatures to collect, and once stocked-up with Pokémon players can then meet at PokéStops and Pokémon gyms to buy various items or battle each other.

RHS Wisley has around 40 ‘Pokéstops’ on site and took its social media followers on a tour of its gardens, catching Pokémon along the way.

The gardens, found just off the A3 between Guildford and the M25 junction, hope the tour will generate some buzz among potential fans and family audiences.

A spokesman said: “Many attractions have seen a positive benefit to having a go and playing the game. It encourages you to get out and explore.

“We wanted to create an online tour, to entice families and visitors who may not consider coming to the garden, especially during the summer holidays.”

Pokémon GO has also made waves in Farnham since its launch in July, with ‘Pokémon hunters’ young and old seen roaming the town.

A Facebook group ‘Pokémon GO Farnham’ has been set up for players to share their findings and to see where other creatures are hiding within the town.

Recent sightings including a black pearl-like Cloyster near Argos on West Street and a Mankey caught monkeying around outside Lidl.

PokéStops in Farnham include the Lion and Lamb statue, Daniel Hall Scout hut and the University for the Creative Arts, while Pokémon gyms can be found at Sainsbury’s South Street, the Maltings, and Farnham Park.
