VIBRANT, dynamic, and well known for its energy-filled rehearsals and polished performances, Luminosa Young Voices has an exciting new home from this September.
“Having had three happy years based in Medstead, where membership has grown, the choir is now ready for a larger rehearsal venue, inviting more young singers and having much more fun,” said artistic director Rebekah Abbott.
“And this inclusive choir is on the lookout for new members.”
In the last two years, the choir has been seen performing at a wide variety of venues, including Medstock and the switching on of the Christmas lights and the Yuletide festival in Alton. The young singers have performed for the Countess of Wessex at the Farnham Festival and are, according to Ms Abbott, “looking forward to another exciting year of performing, singing and having fun”.
The choir numbers 20 young singers and, run by professional singer and primary school teacher Jonathan Upfold, is keen to make people in the area aware of how much it has to offer. More than just singing, the choir runs occasional workshops that include games, sporting activities and craft sessions.
With quality, vibrant singing at the core of what they do, according to Ms Abbot, the plan for next year is to “go on a singing trip, to perform in lots of exciting venues and to take part in singing competitions”.
Last year, the choir was sponsorsed by Alton-based accountantcy firm Sheen Stickland, which has enabled it to invest in top-quality equipment.
Rehearsals will be take place at the Alton Maltings Centre on Tuesday evenings, from 5.45pm-6.45pm during term time. New members are welcome at any time and to encourage membership there will be a free taster session on September 18 when young people are invited to go along, sing and experience the young voices.
