Aldershot Town manager Scott Davies said it was important to "stop the rot" after his side beat Norwich City under-21s 5-3 in the National League Cup to end a run of three successive defeats.
Goals from Marcus Dinanga (3), Tristan Abrahams and Marcus Wyllie fired the Shots to an entertaining victory at the EBB Stadium.
“I’m disappointed to concede three but delighted to score five,” said Davies.
“I think it was important that we stopped the rot of losing the past three games. I was really keen to make sure we got a win.
“Marcus getting a hat-trick is great and we’re really pleased with some of the goals we scored, but letting in three goals is something we hadn't planned for.
“Against a better side who are more clinical we might have ended up conceding a couple more, but we could have scored a couple more as well. There's positives and negatives within the night.
“I think it was important that we got a win. I was desperate to win.”
Ollie Harfield was named Aldershot captain for the Norwich game and completed his first full 90 minutes since September 2024 as he continues to make his way back from long-term injury.
“Ollie was excellent,” said Davies. “I think ticking 90 minutes off was so important.
“He looked very assured and very accomplished in what he was doing.
“Ollie is a top footballer. He knows the game, he's experienced and he should be really proud of himself.
“He'll feel good, and so he should. I’m really pleased for him.”
Academy player Jacob Chrismas came off the bench in the 62nd minute and produced an impressive performance, and Davies was delighted with the youngster’s efforts.
“Jacob showed some good touches and some good quality,” said Davies. “He should be really happy with his performance.”
