Aldershot Town midfielder Conor Lawless praised the Shots' impressive start to the season after they made it six games unbeaten with a 1-1 draw against Yeovil Town.

The point made it 15 points from the first eight National League games of the season as Scott Davies’ new-look squad continued their excellent start to the campaign.

“It's six unbeaten – you can't look past that,” said Lawless.

“It’s frustrating that we haven’t beaten Yeovil, but we've had a really incredible start. It's credit to us, credit to the fans and credit to the staff.

“We can't be too down on ourselves about not winning that game – we can't lose sight of the good start we've had.

“I want to win every game, but you need to be realistic. It’s frustrating, but that's six unbeaten – it's a good run.

“I understand it's very early days in the season, but there's a real unity in this team.

“I feel like we're heading in the right direction. We won't get carried away, but it's a really good start.”

The Shots had to come from behind to earn a point against Yeovil, and Lawless believes the side’s character has played a big part in their encouraging start to the season.

“Character is a part of our game,” said Lawless.

“I feel like whatever the game and whoever we're playing against, we'll get a result.

“We've done that against Solihull, and against Kidderminster with nine men, so whatever the weather the boys are all ready to turn up for this club.”

A key moment in the game came when Yeovil were reduced to ten men in the 29th minute when Loick Ayina was sent off, and Lawless felt the Shots used their numerical superiority to their advantage.

“The red card changed the game and put us in the ascendancy,” said Lawless.

“As soon as the red card happened, we stepped up, moved the ball well and got in good areas.

“At half-time, the message was to play forward, run forward, and push for a goal.”
