Aldershot Town's six-game unbeaten run in the National League ended with a narrow 1-0 defeat at Barrow.

Rekeem Harper’s 64th-minute goal was enough to give the Bluebirds all three points in front of a crowd of 2,414 at Holker Street.

The Shots nearly took the lead on the quarter-hour mark when Basil Tuma drove forward into the penalty area before getting away a left-footed effort that Barrow keeper Ben Winterbottom did well to block.

Aldershot went close again in the first half when Brody Peart’s corner found the head of Michael Stickland and the ball fell into the path of Marcus Dinanga, who tried to poke home inside the six-yard box but was denied by a well-positioned Winterbottom.

The hosts took the lead in the 64th minute. Neat footwork from Arian Allen on the right flank saw the midfielder deliver into the area and Michee Efete cleared the ball to the edge of the box, where Keaton Ward headed into the path of Danny Amos. Amos flicked the ball into the six-yard box, where Harper nipped in and his effort found the bottom corner from close range.

The Bluebirds nearly doubled their advantage ten minutes later when Kennedy Digie’s header rattled the crossbar and bounced down on the goalline before Shots keeper Jonathan Macaulay punched the ball away to safety.

Barrow almost scored a second on 85 minutes when Dan Mooney’s curling effort from the edge of the area was just off target.

Mooney went even closer a minute later when he was through on goal with only Macaulay to beat, but the Watford loanee made himself big to keep out Mooney’s effort.

The hosts nearly went 2-0 up in the 89th minute when Seb Thompson’s effort from the edge of the area hit a post.

The Shots looked for a late leveller in added time, but Barrow held on to end Aldershot’s unbeaten run.
