Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson was disappointed after his side exited the FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat at home to Cirencester Town.

Darryl Sanders gave the Town an early lead, but Harlie Price’s double secured Cirencester’s progress in front of a crowd of 610 at The Memorial Ground.

“It’s really disappointing,” said Johnson.

“We started so well and were so in control and so comfortable for pretty much the whole first half, barring the last ten seconds.

“We conceded silly goals, but fair play to Cirencester and good luck to them.

“Their equaliser came from a ricochet – the reaction to read where the ball is going was non-existent.

“That pretty much summed it up, especially in the final third. You can see where the ball is going, but the desire to go and meet the ball was pretty pathetic.

“In the first half there were a couple of opportunities, but our threat really was Darryl. He looks like the one that's going to score the goals at the minute.”

Cirencester equalised just before half-time, and Johnson admitted he was hoping his side would improve in the second half.

“The message at half-time was to up the tempo,” said Johnson.

“In the the first 20 to 25 minutes of the game we were sharp and looking to get through Cirencester.

“We wanted to up the tempo to what we had in the first 20 minutes and stop taking too many touches, but it was the total opposite.

“We were worse in the second half. Sam Hutchinson came off, which was precautionary, but he's a leader and a talker.

“The effort and desire to run back was lacking. When we were breaking Cirencester’s whole team were running back, but when they got the ball four of us were standing up front. That’s really disappointing.

“We've got to take it on the chin, dust ourselves down and look forward to the league campaign.”
