Farnham Town manager Paul Johnson admitted his side weren’t at the races after they slipped to a 2-1 defeat at home to Salisbury in the National League South.
Rakish Bingham gave the Town an early lead, but second-half goals from Josh Hedges and Nathan Odokonyero earned the visitors all three points in front of a crowd of 1,508 at The Memorial Ground.
“It's a frustrating afternoon,” said Johnson.
“I don't think we were at the races – we had too many players off it.
"It was a strange game. I thought we were really poor with the ball, especially around the edge of our own box.
“We kept repeating the same mistakes. The clearances were woeful and we were just inviting pressure.
“I don't think Salisbury created too much, but they were on top of us.”
The Town led 1-0 at half-time through Bingham’s goal, and while Johnson was pleased with the goal he wanted his side to improve in the second half.
"We were soaking up a bit of pressure at the time and it was a great counter-attack,” said Johnson.
“There were a couple of moments where we looked like we could counter, and that was a good one. We finished it really well.
"The message at half-time was to be better on the ball and to work out Salisbury’s shape a bit better.
“Their full-back was coming inside with his runs, which was causing Josh Tobin a few problems where he had to go with him and left us a little bit outnumbered in the middle of the park.
“When we won the ball we couldn't get Josh in the box, as he was too deep.
“I thought we came out for the second half and looked the better side. We were on the front foot.”
The Town had a big opportunity to go 2-0 up a minute before Salisbury’s equaliser when George Alexander was through on goal, and Johnson admitted that was a big moment in the game.
"I think if that goes in it's probably game over – it was a big chance in the game,” said Johnson.
“Then 60 seconds later there's a ricochet and it's fallen straight to Hedges, who has side-footed one in the bottom corner.
“That summed up the day really, a ricochet and us not being at it.
"We had the better chances, but overall I don't think we were good enough.”
