ST Peter’s School field was transformed into a market place in July 13 as children of all ages set up and organised stalls to raise funds for charities Guide Dogs for the Blind and The Alzheimer’s Society.
As well as a the traditional cake stalls, children set up juice bars, nail bars, penalty shoot outs and a range of other sporting challenges.
Sarah Marshall, deputy head at the Wrecclesham primary school, said: “Charity Day is a fantastic opportunity for the children to use their initiative and come up with ideas for raising money for charitable causes.
“As well as developing entrepreneurial skills, children learn how they can make a difference to others’ lives. They raised £875 in about an hour and a half with absolutely no adult input!”
St Peter’s chose these two charities in memory of two local residents who were very supportive of the school over the years - one of whom, Jane Wheelhouse, provided swimming coaching for St Peter’s Friday Swim squad and regularly brought in guide dog puppies to meet the children.
